Cost and Procurement Controller – Century Mine

A rewarding opportunity now exists for a Cost and Procurement Controller to join our New Century Resources team based on site at the Century Mine (Lawn Hill). This position will be offered on a 16:12 roster with FIFO available for non-local candidates (POH Cairns/QLD). This position is a 12 month fixed term contract.  

The purpose of this position is to provide efficient cost and procurement management for project works. Facilitating with the Project Team, Century Operations and agreed external parties to ensure cost effective execution of expansion projects.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Cost Control
    • Review cost control documentation and identify ambiguities, risks and key issues to be considered by the project execution team
    • Managing project budget tracking against baseline and controlling variations.
    • Prepare monthly cost report including accruals, cost forecasts, variations to contract scope of work and potential upcoming costs
    •  Forecast project spend
    • Tracking of contractor hours against project budgets
  • Procurement
    • Assist in the review of all contractual claims and governance processes and management of contracts with Suppliers to ensure successful delivery
    • Preparing and distributing tendering and quoting documentation
    • Assist Project Team in procurement of labour and materials for the development and execution a work packs
    • Work with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Contract Administration
    • Assist in the review of all contractual claims and governance processes and management of contracts with Suppliers to ensure successful delivery
    • Document scope changes, scrutinising invoices, challenge works not supported by Superintendents directions, Contract Variations and proof the works have been completed as required and verified / signed off by the project team
    • Assist in the assessment and preparation of accurate and detailed cost estimates for customer variations in accordance with procedures
    • Ensure all Variation Proposals and Orders represent value for money to the Company
    • Prepare variation quotations and formalise contract variation documentation
  • Financial Management
    • Raise Pronto requisitions
    • Timesheet tracking and entry in Pronto
    • Assist project supervisors, planners and managers to produce and store project/plant documentation, budgets and quotes
  • Personnel
    • Review rosters and organisation charts against forecast spend
  • General
    • Maintain customer and internal stakeholder relationships
    • Maintain accurate data and record keeping, validation and quality checking

Ideally, applicants will possess the following technical skills, knowledge and qualifications:

  • Certificate III in business administration or a minimum of three years in a relevant administration role
  • Have tertiary qualifications and extensive experience in managing costs in a capital-intensive large-scale Infrastructure environment
  • Business Systems – Pronto, DMS (Scenario) 
  • Experience with enterprise platforms (e.g. SAP) highly desirable
  • Exceptional skills in the areas of communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and planning
  • Significant analytical skills and the ability to work independently and as a proactive team member
  • Strong commercial background with experience in project procurement for capital intensive industries
  • Proficient at drafting, variations and change requests and providing business briefs to support contractual claims
  • Strong attention to detail
  • The ability to manage several tasks concurrently
  • The ability to be both flexible and adaptable
